Giuditta Scalini

Portrait of Massimo Campigli, 1950
Ritratto di Massimo Campigli

Bronze
h 25 cm

Giuditta Scalini is the only female artist represented in the Estorick Collection. She was born in Como and met Massimo Campigli during the early 1930s, going on to become his second wife. Between 1939 and 1940, the couple collaborated on the painting of a large fresco for the University of Padua. Although influenced by Campigli, Scalini had a distinctive style of her own, akin to Etruscan and Nuragic art.
