About the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art
The Estorick Collection is a renowned museum in London that brings together some of the finest and most important works created by Italian artists during the first half of the twentieth century. It is Britain’s only museum devoted to modern Italian art. Our mission is to nurture understanding and appreciation of art and to ignite new thinking on its role in the face of technological, social and cultural change, among a wide and diverse audience.
We present an ambitious programme of temporary exhibitions, which engage with artists, movements and schools, particularly those not widely known in the UK, in dialogue with our permanent collection. Together with our learning programmes, community engagement and research excellence, we inspire visitors and foster an appreciation for the richness of Italian modern art and its context. Trustees of the Estorick Collection are designated as such upon appointment as directors of the Eric and Salome Estorick Foundation which is a private company limited by guarantee, operating and registered as a charity with the Charity Commission (no. 1046374).
Role specification
Following the departure of a number of long-serving board members, the Estorick is currently looking to expand its Board of Trustees. The New Trustees will use their specific skills and relevant experience to help the Board make strategic decisions and to expand its reach in support of its mission. The Trustees will be strongly aligned with the vision and mission of the Estorick and be proactive in contributing to its success and growth. The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate an interest and passion for the visual arts alongside skills beneficial to a governance role. In addition to attending formal board meetings, Trustees will be willing to undertake informal engagement with the charity, including providing advice on an ad hoc basis to the management team. Trustees will be asked to bring their specific knowledge and experience to help the Board reach sound decisions, assist the senior team with advice as required, and keep informed and support as appropriate the activities of the organisation. We ask Trustees to adhere to the Nolan Principles to ensure integrity, accountability, and objectivity in their board role.
