Russolo was among the first to explore themes now recognised as hallmarks of Futurist art: motion, synaesthesia, and the multiplication of images in time and space. Russolo wanted to create what one might call a “musical painting,” fusing colour, gesture, rhythm, and sound into visual form. Hence, in 1911 he created Music, which transforms sound into image, a vision Russolo would expand in his career later.

A Century of Wear and Vulnerability
The canvas reveals frequent movement, instability, and repeated interventions over the years. Without conservation, this pivotal work risks long-term damage. We need our community’s support to help preserve this masterpiece for generations to come.

Why We Need Glazing Now
The painting’s fragile pigments (cadmium, vermilion, cobalt), and coarse support require immediate protection. The canvas shifts and moves as a result of changing tension, making the glazing process especially crucial. Glazing is also an essential safeguard against dust, touch, and environmental pollution.

Help Protect Music Today

We need £7,000 to glaze Luigi Russolo’s Music, protecting it and ensuring this masterpiece can continue to inspire future generations.
