It’s Volunteers Week, and to mark the occasion we would like to spotlight the amazing work our volunteers do to keep the Estorick Collection running smoothly.
As a registered charity, we receive no public funding and rely on our volunteers to help keep us running and open to the public.
Our volunteers give their time at the Estorick Collection helping to run the museum shop, manning the front desk, helping with events, invigilating the galleries, and undertaking various operational activities such as processing membership applications and compiling marketing data.
We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to our volunteers who keep the Estorick Collection going, and to volunteers across the UK who give their time.
What our volunteers have to say
“Volunteering at the Estorick has always been a pleasure for me. It has been intriguing to gain deeper knowledge about the collection and the building, as well the working of an art gallery. I loved being involved in the preparation of the last exhibition too. You also meet a lot of people from interesting backgrounds.” - Tamara
“I’ve been a volunteer here for 9 years! It’s a lovely place to work and you feel supported and wanted. The Collection is so fascinating and I love the special exhibitions as well. I always wanted to volunteer at an art gallery because my dad was an artist and inspired my love of art.” - Leslie
“I have been volunteering at the Estorick Collection for two years now and I like meeting interesting people amongst interesting art!” - Charlotte
“It’s a most stimulating environment and a great bond has grown with my fellow volunteers.” - Piers
“I absolutely love supporting the Islington gem that is the Estorick Collection by volunteering for a day a week. It’s an oasis of Italian artistic innovation and creativity in a busy week, and visitors are fascinating and appreciative. And the cafe is delightful!” - Linden
What is Volunteers Week?
Volunteers Week is an annual UK-wide campaign held from the first Monday in June to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers. Volunteering added £4.6 billion in productivity gains to the UK economy in 2024, which is an inspiring statistic and shows how important volunteers are. The mission of Volunteers Week is to highlight the diverse volunteer community, showcase volunteering opportunities, and inspire positive change. Launched in 1984, this initiative has been running for over 40 years, providing organisations and communities a platform to thank current and past volunteers for their invaluable efforts.
If you are interested in volunteering at the Estorick Collection, please email curator@estorickcollection.com with your name, why you're interested in volunteering and in what capacity you'd like to volunteer. We are always looking for people to help out in the shop, welcome visitors at the front desk, invigilate in one of our galleries or help us with our exciting programme of events.
