On 29 October 2026, Meily Denys presents a special workshop.

This participatory event at the Estorick Collection explores Futurism, gender and movement through the city. Responding to Futurist writings on women and the city as a space of modernity and speed, it combines an audio piece with a collective mapping activity. Visitors are invited to reflect on how identity shapes experiences of public space, from freedom and visibility to surveillance and restricted movement, and on whose bodies are included in visions of modern life.

The workshop is part of the Estorick Collection Student Takeover programme. Everyone is welcome, and no prior knowledge of Futurism or music is needed. Bring your curiosity about art, sound, and the everyday experience you would like to share with us.

Meily Denys is a Belgian artist and anthropologist based in London. Trained in Fine Art at La Cambre, Social Anthropology at SOAS and Gender Studies at the University of St Andrews, she brings artistic practice and research together to explore gender, embodiment and representation. Working across painting, printmaking and other media, her practice examines women's experiences, intimacy and relationships, alongside questions of visibility and belonging in public space.

Student Evening Takeovers are made possible with Art Fund support.
